Brantas, Indonesia — Five-block RS-NMR hydrocarbon survey
RS-NMR studies across five licence blocks in Brantas confirmed that the area flagged as promising by seismic was largely barren — only specific zones held high-porosity reservoir rocks. Validated against 16 prior dry holes and 3 successful wells.
Objective
Re-evaluate five Brantas blocks previously assessed by seismic-only methods, distinguishing genuine reservoir-quality anomalies from false positives.
Approach
Stage 1 satellite-imagery RS-NMR analysis tuned to hydrocarbon spectra across all five blocks, followed by Stage 2 field measurements on priority anomalies. Reservoir-rock porosity quantified at depth measurement points.
Outcome
Most of the seismically-promising area was reclassified as not promising; specific zones with reservoir-rock porosity >10–12% were isolated. The technology call was validated against 16 dry holes drilled earlier in seismic-flagged traps and 3 successful wells (2 oil, 1 gas) drilled in anomalies with porosity 15–25%. New onshore + offshore drill points recommended by POISK were subsequently confirmed by drilling.
