Covenant, Utah, USA — Oil-anomaly drill-target reselection
RS-NMR survey on a 160 km² site in Utah that changed the customer's drilling-well selection by separating oil anomalies in low-porosity rocks from those in high-porosity reservoirs (>15%).
Objective
Reselect the second drilling location on the Covenant block by ranking oil anomalies on reservoir-rock porosity rather than seismic profile alone.
Approach
Stage 1 RS-NMR satellite analysis across the 160 km² site followed by Stage 2 field measurements with the portable Poisk equipment to quantify reservoir-rock porosity at each candidate drill point. Depth-column data resolved gas cap, recoverable oil and porosity layers across two horizons (h1 + h2 = 70 m total reservoir capacity, 140 m total oil-saturated rocks).
Outcome
New drilling location recommended in oil traps with measured rock porosity >15%, also matching the seismic profiles. Customer's original second-well location (low-porosity anomaly) was replaced by the higher-porosity recommendation.
